Contemporary Music Student Accomplishments
Senior Rachel Cox landed a job as music services crew apprentice for the Santa Fe Opera’s summer 2012 season.
Junior Brenna Noonan’s orchestral work Changelings was premiered by the Santa Fe Community Orchestra in March.
Treemotel, an indie/dirt pop band composed of Contemporary Music students David Badstubner and Adam Cook, Contemporary Music graduate Greg Butera (’09), Art student Lindsey Mackin, and Performing Arts student Wark Milliams, is preparing to release its second album and embark on a summer tour of the West Coast.
The Collegium XXI student chamber ensemble performed “Chorale with Alleluias” with Contemporary Music Faculty Chair Steven Paxton, who composed the piece, on piano at the 41st annual John Donald Robb Composers’ Symposium in March at the University of New Mexico. The ensemble includes Stephanie Nagler on violin, Brenna Noonan on saxophone, Darrell Luther on cello, and Estevan Hernandez and Marcus DiFilippo on percussion.
Junior Peter Mugga is audio supervisor and assistant production manager for the 2012 Spirit of Uganda national tour.
In February, juniors Stephanie Nagler and Brenna Noonan accompanied the chamber chorus Coro de Cámara in a pair of concerts in Los Alamos and Santa Fe. Faculty Chair Steven Paxton conducted the concerts, which also included accompaniment from faculty members Deb Barbe and Angela Gabriel. The group performed Renaissance pieces, Southern folk hymns, folk songs collected and harmonized by F. Garcia-Lorca, and one of Paxton’s pieces.
