Initially, it was the thriving folk marimba community that brought Angela Gabriel to New Mexico in 2002. Since then, she has become an integral part of the overall rich and diverse musical culture that is present here. Angela performs regularly with New Mexico’s various symphonic, chamber, choral, opera, theater, dance & world-music ensembles. She also has a passion for encouraging others to deepen their relationship with music through song, dance and groove, and is a facilitator for drum circles, group marimba classes and community singing. She also holds a New Mexico Teacher Certification in music, and has taught Pre-Kindergarten through university-level percussion, general music, piano, history and music theory. Professionally, as an accomplished pianist she works in that capacity for the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and
as the director of the cathedral’s marimba bands. She is also Co-Director of the 7th Wave Community Singers - a modern and innovative choral ensemble led jointly with fellow CMP Faculty member, Amy Linquist. Additionally, she is the driving force as the drummer, vocalist, and co-writer/arranger for the original power pop recording group, Hidden Whale.
