David C. Gardner founded Flying Dog Studio in 2006 to create works of wonder and imagination. With over twenty years professional experience as a layout Artist, Background Designer & Painter, Story Artist, Character Designer, Art Director, Development Artist and Picture Book Illustrator, David draws on his Film degree from Northwestern University and his extensive training at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. He is skilled in digital painting, animation and filmmaking, oil and watercolor painting, life drawing, graphic art and illustration. Before going freelance, he worked at various world-class animation studios, including Walt Disney Animation Studios, the Sullivan-Bluth Studio, and Universal Cartoon Studios. He is proud to be longtime member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. He is a puppeteer and past director for the internationally known Gustav Baumann Marionettes at the New Mexico Museum of Art.
