Camera In Every Hand

Camera In Every Hand

Every incoming Film student receives a digital SLR camera

Your dream as a filmmaker is about to come true: access to your very own professional-grade Canon digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera with premium 18-135mm zoom lens, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Film School at Santa Fe University of Art and Design understands that some of your most creative moments aren’t going to be when The Grip House is open – they’re going to be in the middle of the night, when your phone rings and your friend has a desperately good idea that has to be executed right now. They’re going to be on the weekend, when you’re sleep deprived and over caffeinated from burning the candle at both ends. They’re going to be over spring break, when you’re exploring some place new, or visiting your home with a fresh perspective.

Because you never know when inspiration is going to strike, SFUAD will give you a camera of your very own on your first day of Film School. It’s not a rental, it’s not a loan, and it’s not something you have to pay back. It’s your camera. For life. Forget about being restricted by a few hours of classroom time and sharing a camera with a dozen other people. No more running against the clock to get something professional from our rental facility. Never again beg and borrow gear from your friends. You won’t have to: what you need is already in your hands.

Don’t worry, we’ll teach you how to use it if you’ve never had a DSLR camera before. And if you have, you’ll learn lots of new tricks and tips to make your shots even more amazing. It’s one thing to work with a camera a few hours a week… it’s a whole other thing to always have a professional-quality camera you can use and know inside and out. You’ll be able to concentrate on the content, not the tool.

The more classes and training you receive, the more gear you will gain access to. Once you’re ready for more than just a camera, our Grip House will hook you up with everything else you could possibly need: lights, filters, lenses, sound system add-ons, and more.

At The Film School at Santa Fe University of Art and Design, we don’t just talk about filmmaking – we make films.

*Students who receive the camera kit described above must be enrolled full-time for a minimum of four (4) consecutive semesters (not including Summer Session) or fees in the amount of the retail value of the camera and accessories (approximately $1,000.) will be assessed to your account. A student who leaves the university under a documented Leave of Absence (LOA) prior to completing the consecutive semester enrollment criteria will be required to return the camera to the department prior to beginning the LOA; upon the student’s return to the university within 1 year, SFUAD will issue a replacement camera and the consecutive semester enrollment will resume with credit given for semesters completed prior to the LOA.
