Program Overview

Freshmen: Explore

• Meet with your Academic Advisor

• Attend guest lectures

• Attend Career Services professional development workshops

• Get to know faculty and Department Chair in your major: ask them about their career paths and professional

affiliations

• Start a portfolio by archiving your projects; take quality photos and back up your digital files

Sophomores: Research

• Explore study abroad options, including New York Arts Program, with a Study Abroad Coordinator

• Research companies and organizations of interest for internships; consult with Career Services about options

• Explore internship and job postings on the university’s Career Services site

• Explore resume templates and digital portfolio tool on the university’s Career Services site

• Continue to attend Career Services professional development workshops and guest lectures

• Continue to work with your Academic Advisor to select courses that support your goals

• Attend an internship prep workshop

Juniors: Plan

• Complete a meaningful internship experience for your resume, transcript, and professional development

• Research and bookmark industry professional associations, blogs, and publications: read about your industry;

stay current on industry trends and technology

• Evaluate your social media presence; begin to use social media tools of choice strategically to build connections

and fuel opportunities

• Refine verbal presentation skills; practice talking about your work [Career Services can help]

• Continue to attend Career Services professional development workshops and guest lectures

• Continue to work with your Academic Advisor to select courses that support your goals

• Update/refine your resume and portfolio

Seniors : Activate

• Complete another industry-related internship experience [for your resume, professional development, and

contacts]

• Participate in on-campus career events

• Attend professional networking events in your industry [Career Services can help]

• Attend Career Services job search workshops

• Meet with Career Services to create a customized job search plan and interview prep/practice

• Create target list of employers

• Create list of contacts for portfolio reviews and informational interviews

• Refine your portfolio and resume

• Research salary trends
