Santa Fe University of Art and Design’s Creative Writing and Literature Department is pleased to announce renowned journalist Mike Sager as its Fall 2016 visiting writer, with a reading and book signing open to the public at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Sager will be participating and visiting a variety of writing courses to discuss reporting and writing with students.
A reading and book signing, free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11 in SFUAD’s O’Shaughnessy Performance Space.
Students also are invited to a Q&A lunch with Sager on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at noon in Benildus.
A bestselling author and award-winning reporter, Mike Sager has been called “the Beat poet of American journalism.” Sager has worked for approximately 20 years as a writer for Esquire magazine, and also has had work appear in Rolling Stone, GQ and numerous other publications. In 2010 he won the American Society of Magazine Editors National Magazine award for profile writing. Eight of his articles have been optioned for or have inspired Hollywood feature films, including Boogie Nights. He has published numerous books of fiction and nonfiction, including The Devil and John Holmes, The Someone You’re Not and Revenge of the Donut Boys. Santa Fe University of Art and Design’s Creative Writing and Literature Department offers a bachelor of arts degree with tracks of study in creative nonfiction, fiction, screenwriting and poetry. Students in the department also produce a weekly online news magazine, JackalopeMagazine.com, as well as an annual literary magazine, Glyph. The department hosts free literary events to the campus and wider Santa Fe community throughout the academic year.
