Gender bending confusion and lovesickness abound in one of Shakespeare’s most popular and beloved comedies. Viola, separated in a shipwreck from her twin brother, Sebastian, washes ashore in Ilyria and disguises herself as a boy, Cesario, to serve the Duke Orsine. Orsino loves the lady Olivia and sends Cesario to woo her on his behalf. Olivia promptly falls for Cesario (who is actually Viola). And Viola has already fallen for Orsino, but can’t figure out how to let him know without blowing her disguise. Things get more complicated when Sebastian shows up in Ilyri and a prank is played on Olivia’s servant Malvolio (who also secretly loves Olivia) by her rowdy uncle, Sir Toby Belch, her handmaiden, Maria, and Feste, her jester.
