Film School Chair Chris Eyre Authors Article About Diversity in ‘Variety’ Magazine

Preeminent Native American filmmaker Chris Eyre, chair of The Film School at SFUAD, published an article in Variety magazine reflecting on the lack of diversity in film and mass media today — a dialogue most recently prompted by the fact that the 2016 top Oscar nominees were all white.

In his essay, Eyre notes that media and entertainment are tools for shifting ideas. “This does not necessarily mean perpetuating the telling of the Native American narrative through non-native storytellers, but rather — as many black filmmakers have done — taking the reins of forming our own narratives, historical and otherwise,” he writes.
