The festival is a collaboration across nearly all SFUAD departments, including creative writing, performing arts, film, graphic design, art and music
Santa Fe, N.M.—February 19, 2015—Two Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) creative writing students, Bisi Ademulegun (’16) and Zoe Baillargeon (’15) are producing an on-campus 10-Minute Theatre Festival this spring geared toward highlighting student work to the greater Santa Fe community. The one-night event, which will feature six student-written and -directed 10-minute plays, takes place on Friday, March 13 at 5 p.m. The event begins with a champagne toast sponsored by Gruet and performances will be featured around a unique temporary stage configuration located in the lobby of Greer Garson Theatre. Following the plays, guests can attend a reception sponsored by Jambo restaurant and The Chocolate Maven and featuring a performance by the university’s African Drum Ensemble. The entire event is free and open to the public, but tickets are limited.
According to student producer and artistic director, Ademulegun, the festival’s goal is to provide an engaging, fun, and safe environment for artists to express themselves, and to foster collaboration within the different departments at SFUAD.
“It was always my dream to share with the wonderful people of Santa Fe all the talent that is oozing out of SFUAD,” said Ademulegun, who is a local Santa Fean. “And what better way to do so than a live theatre festival?”
SFUAD students from the Creative Writing Department, screenwriting classes within the Film School, and others, were encouraged to submit original scripts to the festival in late 2014. Six finalists were selected by local playwright Dale Dunn and four SFUAD students. All submissions were required to have a positive message, use an umbrella as a prop, and last only 10 minutes.
“It’s been really exciting and gratifying to see this festival come together,” said Matt Donovan, co-chair of the SFUAD Creative Writing and Literature Department. “There’s been such great energy and motivation in putting the event together, and it’s a fantastic collaborative opportunity for SFUAD’s talented writers and students from across other departments.”
Event leaders are all SFUAD students and alumni, including Producer and Artistic Director Ademulegun, Producer and Creative Director Zoe Baillargeon, Event Producer and alumna Morgan Dawson, Event Director Chantelle Mitchell, Editor-in-Chief Jacey Ellis, as well as participants Michael Clark, Tristine Henderson and Tallis Rose.
