Returning Students

Please do not arrive before you assigned time. You will also be restricted from moving in if you have any holds on your account or an outstanding balance. If you cannot arrive on move in day between 8am and noon, you may not be able to move in until Monday, August 21, 2017. Following Move In Day, Housing check-in will take place in Mouton Hall from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.

  • Where to Start: SFUAD Quad – There will be signage
  • Date: Saturday, August 19, 2017
  • Time: 8am-12pm

When you arrive for Move-In Day, you will need to complete a Digital Room Condition Report. On this report, you will be given the option to review the current condition of the room, noting any damage or problem areas prior to your moving in the room. This form will be used when you check out of housing at the end of the academic year (or, if you move during the year) to assess any additional damage to the room; should there be damage, you will be charged accordingly. We will need to receive your housing contract shortly after you move into your room. You will have an opportunity to meet your Resident Assistant or RA. RAs are an excellent resource if you need anything and will plan activities throughout the year for you and your hall mates.

Arriving outside of Check-in Times

Housing and Residence Life will be available for check-in outside of the initial check-in times listed above Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. For students that arrive outside of those hours of operation, we ask that they seek other accommodations until the offices re-open.

Odds And Ends

To get ready for your trip to Santa Fe, pack things that you’ll need right away when you get here. It’s also a good idea to pack items in crates or storage bins, which you can use later for room decoration or storage. Many retailers and department stores can ship your belongings directly to the university. Some stores like, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, WalMart and K-Mart will allow you to purchase online or at your local store, and pick up your items in the store location here in Santa Fe. Be sure to check with your local and online retailer for more details.

Shipping Items

Label your boxes as you pack so you’ll know what’s in them when you unpack. If you’re shipping items, write the contents on the inside flap of the box. Please do not ship your items to arrive more than 7 days prior to your arrival. You will be assigned your own mailbox number during Orientation.

If you need to ship items before you have your mailbox number, address your boxes like this:

Jane Doe (Incoming Student)
Santa Fe University of Art and Design
1600 St Michael’s Drive
Santa Fe, NM 87505

Check Out

Students must be checked out of their dorm rooms at the end of the spring semester. This is both for your safety, and for the security of the campus. We take the time after the spring semester to clean and repair rooms, to make sure they’re in perfect condition for your return in the fall!

During the month of April, the RAs will schedule a time for you and your roommates to meet together and do a “pre-inventory” of your room/apartment. During this process, any damages that are present will be assessed to the student(s) responsible. Work orders for outstanding issues in the room will be created and questions about the check-out process can be asked. During this time you will also receive your express check-out envelope.

At the conclusion of the academic year, within 24 hours of your last final exam or by noon on Saturday following finals (Sunday for graduating seniors). You will need to completely move from your current assignment. Once you have removed all of your personal belongings, removed all waste materials from the space and returned the room to the condition in which you first moved in, you can complete the check-out process. At this point you will fill out the Express Checkout Envelope and place your room key inside the envelope. The envelope must be returned to the Mouton Hall Office and placed in Express Checkout Collection Box. Failure to return the key or remove belongings from your space will result in charges to your student account.
