Barbara Mehlman received her MFA in painting and installation art from Claremont Graduate School. As a part of collaboration between scientists and artists in Silicon Valley much of Mehlman’s current work is influenced by digital invention. Mehlman’s own contribution, Artitorials (Art+Editorial), developed the process and software to create interactive, visual art poems while one is present (live) at an event. Through associations with Apple Media Lab, Intel, and other digital programs, Mehlman’s work continues to bridge digital forms with traditional painting and sculpture; leveraging one medium with another to create work that integrates live action, natural forces, and 3D imagery together with painting. Residencies she’s attended are: Jentel, Helene Wurlitzer, Vermont Studio Center, and Santa Fe Art Institute. Currently residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico she is happily painting and inventing while teaching at Santa Fe University of Art and Design.
